This guide is intended to help students of Sam Houston State University - The Woodlands center learn about the library resources and services available to them from a distance. Newton Gresham Library strives to support the academic success of its student population and has made a concerted effort to provide the best possible library services to students taking classes remotely. With the distance education services offered by NGL, students will have complete library support without having to visit the library.

Students at SHSU - TWC will have access to:

  • a full-time Librarian to assist you with your research– and library-related needs, such as locating research materials, completing citations, etc.
  • over 100,000 combined online scholarly journals, e-books, newspapers, videos, etc.
  • Interlibrary Loan delivered to your home
  • Newton Gresham Library print materials delivered to your home
  • One-to-one academic consultation
  • In-class library and research instruction

This guide is not comprehensive and will not provide all of the resources and services available. This guide is merely intended as an introduction to get you started. Distance Services & Interlibrary Loan

Take advantage of our Interlibrary Services to get almost any article or book you need, even if our library does not have access. If you are a distance student you can even request books from the main campus and have them shipped to your home for free. 

To request a book we do not own, an article we do not have access to, or a book from the main campus, simply log in to ILLiad using your SHSU credentials and fill out the appropriate form. Please be sure to verify your contact information and mailing address.

    • 300MB = free | 2GB = $20/year | 6GB = $60/year | Unlimited = $120/year

Other Options


  • ​​Make your own fully-searchable library in seconds, cite as you write, and read and annotate your PDFs on any device.
    • Please note: Mendeley has discontinued its mobile apps. Tools like PaperShip may be an alternative. Development and support of Mendeley also seems to have decreased over time.
