Intro to Promoting and Assessing Research

Assessing Research Impact

Research Impact can be thought of as how our work affects or changes something.

In knowledge/scholarship, practice, policy, economy, environment, culture, society, technology, …

We did this research – But so what? Who benefitted and how?

Inquiry for the sake of inquiry is valid... but resources are often scarce (time, labor, funding, etc.).

A clear so what factor gives a competitive edge in gaining scarce resources (positions, raises, grants, perks, etc.).

Promoting Research

Finding ways to promote our work -- make it more visible, discoverable, and clearly relevant to readers -- helps to increase the potential for impact.
