Intro to Planning Research

You should plan your research project thoroughly in advance for the best results in securing funding (if applicable), conducting your research efficiently and effectively, and building the best chance for dissemination via scholarly publication.

Ask yourself:

  • What question do I want to answer, or what problem do I want to solve?
  • What method(s) of gathering and analyzing data will best address this question or problem?
  • Do I require funding to achieve this research, and if so, how can I find the best funding opportunities?
  • Does my chosen funding opportunity require specific documentation, such as a Biosketch, a data management plan, or a data management and sharing plan?
  • As I conduct my research, how will I organize and store my data, notes, and references? If I have co-researchers, do we need any particular spaces or tools to manage our collaboration?
