Turn off Holds

  1. On your server, go to a command prompt
  2. Change directory to Unicorn/Webcat/Config.
  3. Use your text editor (not word processor) of choice to edit the system.env or applicable envn#.env file.
  4. Add these lines to turn off the ability to place holds:
    # offer option to place Enhanced Hold on hitlist
    USE_HOLD_ICON_HITLIST|0|
    # offer option to place Enhanced Hold on single/detail view
    USE_HOLD_ICON|0|
    # offer Enhanced Hold link for all copies (1) or only
    # when no copies are currently available (0)
    HOLD_ITEMS_ON_SHELF|0|
  5. Set all values to 0.
  6. Save your changes. They should take effect when you open a fresh OPAC session.
  7. Alternately, you may need to turn the holds feature back on in the OPAC. IF the variables below are set to 0 (zero) in the system.env or envn#.env file, you will need to change the value to 1 for each variable.
    # offer option to place Enhanced Hold on hitlist
    USE_HOLD_ICON_HITLIST|1|
    # offer option to place Enhanced Hold on single/detail view
    USE_HOLD_ICON|1|
    # offer Enhanced Hold link for all copies (1) or only
    # when no copies are currently available (0)
    HOLD_ITEMS_ON_SHELF|0|
