Public Services: How-To...

Explains how to make use of some popular (and also some little-known) services at NGL

How to Reserve or "Place a Hold on" a Book

  1. Click "Research" in the main menu on the library website, then select "Books & Media (Catalog)". TIP: You may need to open a private or incognito window in your browser to access the catalog.

  2. Press "Sign In"

  3. Enter the title of the book you are searching for into the search bar and press enter.

  4. Locate the book that interests you and click on the title.

  5. Click "Get It" from the side bar or scroll down to the "Get It" section and press "Hold It For Me".

  6. Fill out the prompted form.
*Please note, the Pickup Date under "Not needed after" means that you will no longer need to use the book after the date entered. For example, if you need the book for an assignment due on 9/13/2025, but do not want to check out the book after your assignment is due, you will enter 9/13/2025.
If you would like the book no matter when it becomes available, leave this field blank.

  7. To view or make changes to your request, first click on your name in the top right corner of the screen.

  8. Select either "Library Card" or "My Requests".

  9. If you click "Library Card", you can view your most recent requests. To make changes, click on the request you would like to change.

  10. If you click "My Requests" you can view all of your requests. Here you will be able to view the status next to "Request" ("In Progress" means your request is being processed by the library) and cancel requests by clicking "Cancel" next to the item you no longer need.

  11. Your hold will generally be pulled within 1-2 business days. When the hold is ready, you will receive an email confirmation.

  12. You will receive an email confirmation when your hold is ready for pickup. Visit the Help Desk at the library's first-floor entrance (near the stairs up from the parking lot). You will be asked to show your Bearkat OneCard to verify your identity.
