Public Services: How-To...

Explains how to make use of some popular (and also some little-known) services at NGL

Library Computers and Printers

1st-floor open computer area:

  • Windows 10 PC computers with webcams
  • black-and-white printers (free for use by current SHSU students and employees)
  • black-and-white copier (free for public use)
  • KIC Station scanner (free for public use) to send digital scans to email or a USB flash drive
  • Adaptive Technology Workstation (see details below)
  • We reserve the right to reboot unattended computers in this area after 10 minutes; unsaved data may be lost

Room 200 on the 2nd floor (IT@Sam computer lab):

Library laptops may be borrowed at the Library Service Desk for use inside the library building.

  • Available on a first-come, first-served basis
  • SHSU I.D. required -  We do accept the mobile Bearkat ID in the official SHSU app
  • Due back 15 minutes before closing on the same day
  • Access SHSU wireless network
  • Use personal USB drives

Personal laptops are also welcome and can access the secured SHSU wireless network or the guest wifi.

Print wirelessly from both personal and borrowed laptops, both Windows PC and Mac.

  • Printer names in 1st floor computer area by the central staircase = nglref-1 and nglref-2

To add a library printer to a networked SHSU desktop computer:

  • Confirm the name of the printer (names are usually posted on top of or just above the printer)
  • Press the Windows key on the keyboard
  • Type \\print\ and the name of the printer - for example, \\print\nglref-1
  • Click Enter

To print from a laptop to a library printer, follow these steps from IT@Sam.

For assistance with wireless printing, speak to an IT@Sam Lab Assistant in the second floor computer lab.

For questions or problems with wireless printing, please contact IT@Sam:

The Adaptive Technology Workstation provides visually impaired students with tools such as a large-screen monitor, ClearView video magnifier, and specialized software programs like JAWS and ZoomText.

This equipment is located at the far end of the 1st floor computer area, closest to the Administration Offices.
