What is Scholarly Works @ SHSU? 

ScholarlyWorks@SHSU is the university’s institutional repository that collects, preserves, and highlights the scholarly output of Sam Houston State University’s academic community. It is a professionally maintained digital archive that gives the university’s intellectual and creative output increased visibility and accessibility over time. The collection includes academic articles, presentations, electronic theses and dissertations, and other materials created by faculty, staff and students at SHSU.

Boost You Research Impact 

An important aspect of research is sharing the results with your peers and the general public. Coordinated by Newton Gresham Library, ScholarlyWorks@SHSU offers the opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to disseminate their work to the widest possible audiences, increasing visibility, impact, and highlighting the valuable work of our university community. The repository's content, except the internal collection, is discoverable by Google, Google Scholar, and other search engines, which makes it easy to share and collaborate with anyone connected to the Internet. The content is available to be used responsibly under fair use for personal and educational purposes or with the permission of the authors or copyright holders.

 

DSpace Repository Hosting 

ScholarlyWorks@SHSU is hosted by the Texas Digital Library (TDL) consortium, in the DSpace platform. DSpace is a widely-used open source repository software that manages and preserves all types of digital content and facilitates indexing of that content by commercial search engines such as Google and Google Scholar. 

The DSpace institutional repository hosted by the TDL: 

  • promotes the principles of open access 

  • ensures the long-term preservation and accessibility of digital assets 

  • provides access to published and unpublished research of faculty, staff, and students 

  • preserves and disseminates a wide variety of content beyond traditional scholarly articles, including learning objects, electronic theses and dissertations, audio/visual content, posters, presentations, and more 

  • helps universities and researchers fulfill obligations to make publicly funded or non-profit-funded research available open access 

  • encourages access and sharing among disciplines and institutions 

  • showcases an institution's faculty and student output, and through participation in the TDL consortium, the scholarly contributions of the entire state
