SHSU faculty, including librarians, and SHSU staff can request a resource be trialed submit the resource be trialed here: (FORM HERE), or contact their Subject Librarian by the deadlines listed for each review period.
Review (trial) periods for new electronic resources are scheduled twice a year: once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester.
All new electronic acquisition requests will be reviewed by the SHSU Library Collection Development Committee.
Generally, all new electronic resource requests should be reviewed/trialed prior to adding it to the NGL Wishlist,
which the Collection Development Committee reviews as budget permits.
In consultation with faculty, liaisons, appropriate library staff and others (as needed), the Electronic Resources Librarian will evaluates whether or not the product meets the SHSU Library criteria outlined in the Electronic Resources Collection Development Policy and SHSU Library licensing requirements.
The Electronic Resources Librarian will request pricing for the product and investigate consortial purchase options.
The Electronic Resources Librarian will request a trial of the product. All trials should be coordinated through the Electronic Resources Librarian. This helps ensure that the trial is correctly set-up (authentication), feedback survey is available, and that the trial period appropriately timed and publicized when necessary.
In consultation with faculty, liaisons, appropriate library staff and others (as needed), the Electronic Resources Librarian will solicit feedback and evaluate the product based on the trial using the NGL Trial Resource Feedback Survey.
As needed, reviews of the product and consultations to other institutional subscribers will be performed.
Based on cost, perceived need, usage, and the degree to which the electronic resource meets the selection criteria, the committee will: 1) decide whether or not to acquire and 2) if a decision to acquire is made, prioritize its purchase in relation to other electronic resources requested within budgetary constraints.
