An advocate of engaging and effective learning, Ashley continually investigates and applies a variety of instructional strategies and pedagogical techniques in her instructional practice whether face-to-face, online, hybrid, or one on one.

Ashley began her career in Education as a upper elementary and middle grades Science teacher and maintains Texas Educator Certificates in Grades 4-8 Science, Generalist, and English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL). Inspired to combine her loves of learning, teaching, and information, Ashley became a librarian. She earned a Masters of Library & Information Science in 2016 from the University of Washington. She has engaged with learners of all levels during her experience in school, public, and academic libraries. 

In her current role as a Research & Instruction Librarian, Ashley instructs undergraduate and graduate students, primarily pre-service and in-service educators of varying levels, in information literacy and library research skills, collaborates with faculty to build instructional materials, and investigates and purchases materials to support and enhance instruction and learning activities at SHSU. In collaboration with Heather Adair, SHSU's Instruction Librarian, she as worked to create and cultivate an EC-12 Instructional Materials Collection and Children's Literature Collection within SHSU's library to support pre-service and in-service educators in their coursework and professional development as educators.

She currently serves as the Chair of the Texas Library Association (TLA) Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) and as member on the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Education & Behavioral Sciences Section (EBSS) Instruction for Educators committee and the SHSU Quality Enhancement Plan Implementation Committee. She is also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) Society International.

Ashley's research interests include developing effective, efficient information literacy instruction, incorporating diverse pedagogical techniques in the library classroom, and improving faculty-librarian communication.

Heather F. Adair

Heather F. Adair

She began her career in education in 1997 and served as an EC-12 teacher, library media specialist, instructional coach, workshop presenter, and administrator in deep South Texas. She joined SHSU in 2018 and continues to work across disciplines to foster life-long sustainable information literacy instruction throughout the SHSU learning community.

Her beliefs are grounded in the need for creating a positive, engaging, relevant experience for all learners, igniting inquiry and supporting critical thinking and problem-solving, and inspiring learners to become self-sufficient life-long information consumers and creators.  Throughout her experience as an Instructional Coach and professional development presenter, Heather has supported instructors' necessity to become adept at and use of a variety of teaching and assessment tools and strategies to meet learners' varied needs and encouraging a growth mindset in an information-rich global society.

In collaboration with Ashley B. Crane, the SHSU Education Liaison and co-presenter at this conference, she has worked to create and cultivate an EC-12 Instructional Materials Collection, which is co-located with the SHSU Children's Literature Collection, for which Heather is the librarian, to support pre- and in-service educators in their coursework and professional development and literacy throughout the SHSU community.

She maintains Texas Educator Certificates in Secondary Business Education Composite (grades 6-12), School Librarian (grades EC-12), and Principal (grades EC-12) and has a B.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Texas A&M University and a M.S. in Library & Information Science from University of North Texas.

In her current role as the Instruction Librarian, Heather coordinates library instruction activities for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in, collaborates with faculty to build instructional materials, and investigates and curates materials to support and enhance instruction and learning activities at SHSU.  To support this and maintain a fresh perspective on teaching and learning, Heather teaches two credit-bearing courses: Learning Frameworks for Collegiate Studies, tailored to meet the needs of first-year students, and Research in the Digital Age, and undergraduate course that tackles information literacy, consumption, and creation in today's evolving information landscape.
