Welcome!

Welcome Instructional Systems Design & Technology (ISDT) doctoral students! Using this guide, you will:

  • learn:
    • how to find articles, books, and reference materials using our library collection and databases for your literature review
    • what distance education and interlibrary loan services are available to help you get materials for your literature review
  • be able to:
    • recognize when it is time to stop reviewing the literature
    • locate the Dissertation Template
    • locate Citation Style guides
    • request help from your Librarian or the Thesis Clerk

When Is It Enough?

Research for your dissertation's literature review is complete when you can answer the following questions:

  • Is there a hole in the scholarly literature regarding your topic?
    • Are you able to illustrate the hole using the materials you've found so far?
  • Is there informal conversation among scholars (via blogs, twitter, etc.) about your topic?
    • Does the hole exist there as well?
      • Can your gathered materials demonstrate that hole?

Think you're finished? Keep on top of forthcoming publications by setting up email alerts in Education Source, ERIC, and Educational Administration Abstracts! Ask us how!

Interlibrary Loan

Found an article, book chapter, or book, that would be useful to you, but the library doesn't have access it to?  Request it through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service! We'll attempt to get you a copy from another library.

Estimated return time(s):

  • Article - 48 hours
  • Book Chapter - 72 hours
  • Book - 2 weeks (+ shipping time to you)
