Articles
Sometimes our library does not have access to a specific article. In many databases, this will be indicated by a note like this:
In these cases, you may place a request for the article, and our library will seek to borrow a copy from another library; this service is called Interlibray Loan (ILL).
In many instances, this takes only a few days, and a PDF copy of the article will be made available to you for download.
ILL requests are made in the ILLiad system; the note in our databases will link you there, or you can find it through the Library website menu.
The first time you place a request, you will need to create an account. ILLiad does NOT automatically use your normal SHSU login.
If you have followed a "Request" link from a library database, the details of the article you are requesting will already be filled in for you--MAGIC!!
The key piece of information you need to fill in is the "Not Wanted After Date" - If you have a deadline, after which this article would no longer be useful, let us know.
If you don't have an auto-magical link to follow--let's say you found a citation in the Bibliography of another article and couldn't find that article in our library--you can still fill in the relevant details by hand to place an ILL request.
Books
You can also request books through ILL; another library will mail the book to the SHSU Library. How the book gets to you depends on your home address, where you attend classes, and the settings in your ILLiad account.
Questions or problems with Interlibrary Loan services may be addressed to the Interlibrary Services Offices, (936) 294-1616, lib_ill@shsu.edu.
