Keep in mind that most dropdown menus are sorted in descending order of most available results and are not searchable. You will likely want to experiment with different tweaks and filters in order to find the best results for you.
Your active filters will appear on the left-hand side of the page. You can also easily reset/remove these filters or save these filters for another search.
To the left of your results, you'll see a list of various filters you can apply to get more specific results. Simply click the checkbox that appears to the left of each filter to select it, or click the red checkbox that appears to the right of each filter to exclude it.
You can sort by relevance, date, title, or author.
Select "Available online" to get only digital results that the library has access to, "Peer-reviewed Journals" to ensure you're only getting those results, "Open Access" to find any results from open access sources, and "Held by library" to get physical results.
You can use the dropdown Resource Type menu to select specific types of sources you may need, or exclude other types of sources, such as articles, newspapers, magazines, books, dissertations, etc.
You can use Publication Date to give a specific range of publication dates you want to pull from. This is especially useful if you need more recent sources or sources from a specific era.
The Subject dropdown menu will show specific subject headings to include or exclude. These subjects may include whatever field you're searching, such as biology or social sciences, but they'll also include specific related topics. This can include things like gender, location, or more specific related topics.
The Author/Creator dropdown menu is most useful for limiting which publishing organizations you want to see results from.
Use the Journal Title dropdown menu to limit specific journals.
Besides English, you may also see/want results from other languages. Use the Language dropdown menu to help your search there.
If you're looking specifically for physical materials, use Location to limit where in the library you're looking. Most of our collections are on the 3rd and 4th Floors, with some exceptions, which will also be listed in the dropdown menu. From here, you can also select if you want books from our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) program.
Finally, if you want to look specifically at results from a certain database (or exclude certain databases), use the results in Collection.
