SHSU Archive of COVID and Life in 2020-2021: Home

It's been quite a time to live through--help us tell the story from the Huntsville perspective.

The Newton Gresham Library seeks personal narratives, letters, diary/journal entries, poems, artwork in any medium, photographs, video, audio, etc.--anything which helps to document the SHSU and Huntsville community's experience of events including but not limited to:

  • COVID-19 pandemic, social isolation, health-related fears, grief and personal loss;
  • Job loss, economic turmoil, financially motivated fears, and the disruption of daily life, including university studies;
  • Protests following the death of George Floyd, nationwide/global protests against police brutality and systemic racism, and increasing support of #BlackLivesMatter and the movement for social justice;
  • Debates over Huntsville's own Confederate monument and increased scrutiny nationwide of honorary names, statues, monuments, etc. honoring Confederates, slaveholders, or racists;
  • UPDATE: We want to include winter storms Uri and Viola (Feb 2021) in our project as well. Please share photos, stories, etc. of what you experienced to help document the significance of this disaster on our local community.
  • And other aspects of living through this time that you think should be preserved for the future.

Contributions may be submitted by any members of the communities in SHSU, Huntsville, Walker County, and the surrounding areas. View the contributions we've already processed as inspiration for what you might submit!
