Award lists are a great way to find excellent examples of children and young adult materials in a multitude of categories. Listed below is a sampling of awards lists for children and young adult books, print, and media.  

  John Newbery Medal

Annual award for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

  Randolph Caldecott Medal

Annual award to the artist/illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

 Texas Bluebonnet Award

Awarded annually to the author of the favorite fiction or nonfiction book of the Texas student reader community from a master list of 20 books, published in the past 3 years, recommend by librarians, teachers, parents, and others.

 Pura Belpre Award

Annual award to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.

 Coretta Scott King Book Awards

Given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of the African American culture and universal human values.

 Odyssey Award

Annual award given to the producer of the best audiobook produced for children and/or young adults, available in English in the United States.
