2021 T&LC: Post-Pandemic Teaching: Lived Experiences Guiding Future Practices

Session Description

The onset of the pandemic left instructors in a lurch. How do we adjust? Will it be possible to integrate active learning? How do I support my students while maintaining rigor? How do we tackle compounded crises? Transformation born of necessity, instructors quickly found ways to adjust, employing instructional strategies and tools to overcome obstacles and build community.

Presenters will examine the principles of crisis teaching, active learning strategies they adapted for the challenging hy-flex environment and learners’ diverse needs, and the role an active professional learning community played in their ability to overcome obstacles. We will consider various crises while discussing learners’ and instructors’ experiences and needs. Participants will collaboratively brainstorm criteria for selecting crisis-appropriate active learning and community-building tools, sharing their successes and struggles. Presenters will discuss strategies they adapted for the tenuous environment and their lessons learned. A digital resource will be provided to further the conversation.
