Special Collections and University Archives are home many rare books and unique collections belonging to Sam Houston State University.  These books and collections primarily focus on Texana, Civil War, criminal justice, SHSU, and local history. Many of these exclusive collections and items have been digitized and made available with Digital Special Collections Online. Notable among the collections available online are the vivid drawings of Col. John. W.
